Really enjoyed reading this, you bring up some valid points. To add to it, something I’ve questioned lately is the role of silent watchers, or as I call them “creeps” on social media. The people who watch and follow but don’t share or post. To your last point, “Technology is not something that happens to us, it is something we choose to create,” there are far too many non-creators on these collaborative community platforms that consume but don’t contribute. I think there should be different levels of access to promote contribution for those who want to be part of a true, rich experience but a separate tier for those who simply want to “read” social media. This separation between creators and consumers, I think, would reward more valuable members of these communities and possibly lead to more innovation.
